... Fuck me... Changed my brake pads today (took me 15 minutes to do the front brakes and 4 hours to do the rear... yeah!) and noticed it. Now THAT’s why it doesn’t lock my wheels when doing a handbrake turn. At least it’s seized “the right way”, by that I mean it’s seized on the open position and doesn’t block the wheel itself.

If you’re wondering, the SA22C RX7 does not have separate handbrake pads. The way it works, it uses another piston to push the main brake piston (yeah, fucking simple!!). This first piston is seized, but it’s not a problem for the normal brakes to work. So I struggled for 3 hours to put back my brakes calipers/handbrake cables in place and due to this seized handbrake piston, I couldn’t put back the handbrake cable correctly. So now the handbrake cable touches the driveshaft, making tons of noise and I have to go under the car again tomorrow, just to put one cable with one fucking screw but it’s really hard to put back in place... Fuck me, Fuck me, Fuck me!

Hopefully I can do it myself, but I might need a lift just to have the force to put this damn handbrake cable into place.

Anyway, here is a REALLY nice SA22C monster for your time...

Hey Flav, can I have a pic of your RX-7? I just saw my first 2 RX-7's at C&C last Saturday. A early one and a beautiful green one.

Those first pictures are actually “previews” of the full review of the car I’ll do later and will push to get published on Jalopnik haha. Waiting to get proper videos for the car in order to actually do the (biased) review itself.

Hoenstly, I think it is the funnest car I have ever owned.... And yes, I think it is A LOT more fun than a Miata :)

See it as 190hp ligher (960kg for mine actually!!) Miata with a rotary... How freaking cool is that??? :)

Mmmmm.... that color combo is gorgeous! Good job! And that bullet train pic is just so perfect! But... may I suggest...

You know you want to

(Not get a 944, but I would love that. Get a Gulf Racing paintjob on your RX-7 and wow every gearhead on Tsukuba)

I have no credit for it, I bought it that way :)

I actually didn’t like it this much at first and wanted to repaint the car to its original gunmetal grey color. Then I got used to it... Then I started to kind of like it. Now... I’m keeping it haha :)

Other perverse ways of actuating a handbrake, other than the “normal” wedge inside caliper for discs and pulling on a single shoe for drums, would be such things as enlarging the shoe pivot (don’t remember who does that one), having a totally separate handbrake caliper on the disc that looks like it belongs on a motorcycle (Jag), and having a whole mini-drum inside the rear disc (Volvo, Benz).
